Eat Me Cafe
Beer label design
Award winning, Scarborough based bistro Eat Me approached Sail to create some new branding materials. Eat Me offer a diverse multicultural menu, inspired from Martyn and Stephen’s world travels. They were expanding to opening on evenings and had some exciting dishes and cocktails to give it a different feel from the daytime menu. The project scope involved logo design, illustrative icons, beer label design and menu design. We met regularly with Martyn and Stephen, asking questions and listening carefully to understand their goals. We worked closely with the client and discovered they wanted designs that retained the quirky, warm and friendly personality of the bistro, whilst being forward moving to give the cafe a fresh look. They wanted something that was simple and typographic based, but had personality.
To begin our creative process, we undertook thorough research and development, keeping Martyn and Stephen informed along the way. After sketches and discussions, we created a unique scripted logo which was hand gilded onto the window along with the food icons we created. We also designed their evening menu, making suggestions and recommendations to enable a user friendly design, including a ‘flow chart’ style for the meatball sections and the choices on offer. The beer label design use an illustration of mythical creature the Jackalope. We thought this was quite unique and wanted to push this magical feel into the beer label, in a subtle way. The menu and the beer bottle labels were printed using brown paper give the items a rustic and textured look and feel.
