As a certified B Corp we wanted to spread the word and provide more information to the North East business community about what B Corp means, the process of becoming accredited and the impact of joining the B Corp movement.
The aim of the event was to bring together a network of people from a wide range of industry sectors from large corporate businesses to small independent freelancers, all with the same interest and shared desire to have a positive impact on people and the environment.
It was great to have over 100 people attend the event which really signifies the interest and passion in the North East business community to have positive impact on their team, the community, the environment and customers, with the desire to learn and grow together.

The afternoon started with a talk from Mandy (Sail), welcoming everyone to the event and sharing a little bit about B Corp and the importance of becoming B Certified. We then had a speech from Robson Laidler who was the first business in the North East to become accredited and what it meant for them as a business. The talks concluded with B Leader, Fiona Ras-Jones who gave an insight into B Corp, the benefits, the 5 key impact areas that are measured during the process and how you can become certified.
The rest of the afternoon was spent networking, sharing ideas and getting involved at the interactive stations.
At one of these stations we encouraged people to share their thoughts on the following questions:
What does purpose mean to you?
- ‘Value based action’
- ‘A meaning bigger than me – future orientated’
- ‘Change for good’
What would you like to get out of today and future B Social events?
- ‘Liked minded connections’
- ‘More info about becoming a B Corp’
- ‘Community’
What does a sustainable future look like to you?
- ‘Balance “Rest is resistance”
- ‘Circular regenerative system for economic growth!’
Please share any reading, watching etc. recommendations
- ‘Nathalie Olah – Everything she writes!’
- ‘Sam Coniff – ‘”Be more Pirate’ Sam Conliff”’
- ‘Ann English ‘Clarity Quest’ Ted X Talk’
It was really inspiring and exciting to meet so many local businesses who are just as passionate as us about consistently working hard to do better, creating positive change and impact.
We are looking forward to helping to grow the North East B Corp community and bringing together an amazing network of like minded people.
“Do the best you can until you know better. Then when you know better, do better.”
